Sam Lee Pan

Team: Learning Technologies

Sam joined the Learning Technologies team in 2014 as a consultant and has been enjoying the challenge as it involves a host of technical issues as well as understanding how these apply in the teaching and learning context. The Learning Technologies team, supports, maintains and enhances useful technologies at UCT. In particular, it focuses on Vula, UCT's online learning management system, and the lecture recording which is growing across campus. Vula and lecture recording are both based on open-source technologies, connected to the Sakai and Matterhorn projects respectively. Sam's team also supports other technologies that facilitate learning and teaching such as video conferencing.

In 2007-2008, she worked at UCT in the Centre for Educational Technology (CET) as a part-time research assistant, and then in 2009 and 2011-2013 she was involved in the Open Education Resources (OER) project at Faculty of Health Sciences. She has a diverse background with a Masters in Environmental and Geographical Science. Sam has also worked in the GIS (Geographical Information Systems) field where she provided training and technical support and was introduced to open source thinking. Going forward, she is excited about how technology can provide for learning needs in South Africa and help innovate for the future..
