Course design in Higher Education

3 Apr 2017 - 10:30

In 2014, UCT was approached to participate in an online curriculum design course. This course incorporates expertise from a range of universities: SUSS University in Singapore, Stockholm University in Sweden, the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia and UCT. The aim of this course is to both collaborate and try to build a community of practice.

The course is a credit bearing option for staff at the University of Stockholm, but is voluntary for participants from other universities.

Associate Professor Alan Cliff of CILT teaches one of five modules on the course, ‘Using assessment to facilitate learning’. According to A/Prof Cliff there are a few important things to note about e-assessment:

  • Be aware that online assessment is not the same as conventional assessment,
  • E-assessment presents excellent opportunities for using assessment to facilitate learning, even more than conventional ways,
  • E-assessment presents genuine, very good opportunities for peer-to-peer assessment in formal assessment.
