Sieraaj Francis

Sieraaj is an Online Learning Designer at CILT. He has a passion for education and its role in social change, transformation and decoloniality. Sieraaj brings to CILT his experience of working in diverse contexts, having taught computer programming at High School Level, having run a non-profit mathematics competition network, having taught on the Educational Technology program at UCT, and having worked in staff development at UCT.

Sieraaj holds a Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science (Computation and Cognition) with a minor in Urban Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, Sieraaj is completing his master’s research project which explores how teaching and learning in student-led Facebook spaces can provide decolonising learning spaces at the University of Cape Town. His research explores how the shift in division of labour in these spaces may disrupt the teacher-learner binary and the colonial teaching practices at UCT.

In his spare time Sieraaj loves football, dancing and music.
